The Workshop:

We often find ourselves playing a game of ‘catch up’ or thinking of a response in the moment. Technique and intuition can be a powerful tool for personal development and expression within jiu-jitsu.

By approaching jiu-jitsu through concepts rather than step by step instruction, we accelerate our ability to pick up different core principles that work for ourselves and our bodies. This workshop series aims to build upon the participants’ understandings of how to manipulate body mechanics and physics and allow our technique to become an expression of those principles. Through a concept based approach, we also reduce cognitive load/processing and get closer to achieving the flow state of rolling, and get closer to ‘mushin’ (the mind without a mind) in live training and sparring.

We will cover the technical knowledge of how to execute a move in addition to conceptual nuances, along with specific intentions in your training to help participants achieve this flow and state of mushin in their own pace and style. Our concept based approach also aids participants in injury prevention by demonstrating tools to increase to full body awareness within the context of jiu-jitsu.

The main takeaway of these sessions is to help guide practitioners to accelerating their understanding of techniques through a mixed method approach and open mindedness to adopting new and original games to learn new pathways and nuances in movement.
This series is suited towards all levels and types of practitioners, whether geared towards competitive pursuits or artistic expression.
